Vasco Coelho is a passionate and versatile photojournalist, filmmaker and storyteller based in Portugal. With a deep commitment to capturing and sharing the unknown, Vasco has made a name for himself through his photography, documentaries, and short films. His work takes viewers into the heart of the unexplored, from the wilderness of wildlife to the hidden stories of human life.

Education & Academic Journey

Vasco's academic journey reflects his dedication to both the art of visual storytelling and academic excellence. He holds a Master's degree in Communication Sciences, specialising in Cinema and Television, at Universidade Nova FCSH. He also holds a degree in Photography and Visual Culture from IADE, Faculty of Design, Technology, and Communication at the European University, where he honed his skills in visual storytelling. Vasco’s academic accomplishments are notable, having finished his Bachelor degree with an average of 17 points, demonstrating both his passion and mastery in the field.

Photojournalism & Publications

Vasco’s work as a photojournalist has been featured in leading publications, including National Geographic Portugal and Jornal Público. His photography focuses on capturing powerful narratives through images, revealing the beauty and challenges of our world. In recognition of his exceptional talent, Vasco was selected for the prestigious Eddie Adams Workshop, where he joined a select group of 100 photographers from across the globe to hone his craft. This opportunity allowed him to further immerse himself in the world of photojournalism, learning from the best in the industry.

Documentaries & Cinema

In addition to photography, Vasco is also a talented filmmaker. His documentaries and short films have been showcased at the Cinemateca Portuguesa and Cineteatro João Mota in Sesimbra, a testament to his growing influence in the cinema world. His work in film blends his visual storytelling skills with an intimate exploration of subjects, creating thought-provoking and compelling narratives that leave a lasting impact.

A Passion for Discovery

Vasco’s relentless curiosity is the driving force behind his exploration of the unknown. This passion led him to earn his Drone Pilot certification, allowing him to capture breathtaking aerial shots, and his Diving Course, enabling him to document life below the surface. Whether exploring the skies, the land, or the depths of the ocean, Vasco's unique perspective as a photographer and videographer allows him to document the unseen and reveal stories few people ever have the opportunity to witness.

Athletic Background

Vasco’s journey is not limited to photography and filmmaking, between 2015 and 2021, he was a member of the Modern Pentathlon National Team, competing in international competitions such as the World Championships, European Championships, and International Opens. His experience in high-performance sports has taught him discipline, resilience, and the importance of pushing boundaries, qualities that influence his creative and professional endeavours.
